The family was moving from either Leavenworth, Kansas or St. Joseph, Mo. to Rosedale, Mo., which is now a part of Kansas City, by team and wagon. One morning as Lewis LaFave was getting the team ready for the days travel and Virginia Ann was either getting breakfast or they were finnishing breakfast two men rode into their camp and demanded the horses. Lewis objected and one of the men pulled his gun and shot Lewis. All this happened in front of the children. Lula Letitia, my grandmother, was sent to a farm home for help. Lula Letitia was ten years old or somewhat older, the date is rather vague......
